I’m planning on driving to Maine (maybe) to get a Lobster Sandwich… considering I live in Colorado, and going to go to Phoenix…Florida….. I might not make it to Maine, but it’ll be a fun week of driving around.

Hopefully I find hotels and have ‘net access!

Is it wise to discuss which banks I have accounts with?  Someone could haxor me…  ohwell.

You’ve seen the commercial for the Chase ATM’s where the guy just enters his check and it reads it and takes care of the deposit?  Well this morning I made an ATM deposit and they’d updated the ATM I use with that technology.  I must say I like it.  No more stupid envelope or having to enter a million things.

It took it, scanned it, the OCR got the deposit amount correct, displayed the check image on screen and asked for confirmation.  Worked swimmingly well.

I know some of my friends have issues with Chase…but, I’ve no complaints.  And, they aren’t my only bank where I have an account, either.

Seems the “search” over there to the right wasn’t working…  someone let me know and I fixored it today.

Silly developers reference “/index.php” instead of “index.php”, and since my Blog is located in /blog…it wasn’t finding the index to search with.

Remember when you were a kid, and you got 4 or 5 stations and no one paid for it? I do…

Do you really need 200 channels?  I don’t.

I’m going back to that…sort of.  With the digital changes Feb 17 finally happening, I can take advantage of Free Over the Air Digital TV.  And with CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS, CW and ION stations broadcasting ever more content in HD formats… I don’t think I’ll miss pay TV.

I have my UHF Antenna mounted on my roof, and I pick up 22 digital stations from Denver, Fort Collins, and Cheyenne with my 37″ LCD TV.   It’s nice to have a digital ready TV, and a buddy who supplied me with a killer antenna!

You could set yourself up,  just check out AntennaWeb to find out what channels are near and see if it’s something you’d like.  I’ll admit, not everyone thinks they can live without Cable/Satellite.  I’ve not watched my DirecTV since Jan 1..and I’ve not missed a thing.

How much are you spending each month for Television?  I’ve been spending $720+ a year for TV.  I’m done with it.  You could take that savings and in 2 years have a nice 60Inch LCD TV & pay for 2 years of NetFlix supplying you with a great home movie experience! And if you really MUST watch some Cable show..you really need to check out the ‘Net because you can download most every episode of every show legally for free. (go find hulu!)

January, 2009…the dawning of the age of no pay TV for me!

Me..I’m going to eat more ice cream, and get more massages.  I think those I can do.

Driving my truck has been a headache…literally.  I swapped the left hub assembly, and it got a little better.  Still, though, it made a high pitched sound – even worse at 75-80mph .  I’d bought the right side but hadn’t had time to do it for various reasons.

Finally got that done yesterday and all I can say is…if you’re wheel bearings need replaced, do it.  Your ears will thank you.

I’ve also cleaned up some of my garage…I think the Honda might fit, actually, but I have to take out the trash first.  Also, I finally found the power cord to my turntable – so LP’s can play again.

Tomorrow….I’ll actually move the UHF antenna for Digital Broadcast TV and get a decent signal so I can finally kill DirecTV.

As my truck ages…things begin to fail.  Some say, “Get a new truck.”  I don’t think they’ve thought that through.  I could get a “newer” truck, that has issues I’m unaware of…starting prices are still $15k and up.  I could get a brand new truck, starting prices $27k and up.

I’ve looked at new trucks, even.  I just haven’t found any that I like more than my truck.

So, spending a few grand to maintain my current vehicle seems a bargain to me.  The body is in decent shape.  Even a brand spankin’ new engine is only around $2,000…and I can do most of the work with the help of a friend and his nicely heated garage.

The new transmission is working swimmingly well.  Fuel mileage increased to nearly 16mpg in town, up from 12.  The front wheel bearings had worn out on the drivers side, so I replaced that Saturday. Only $200 for the front hub assembly.  I decided to do the passenger side as well, because, it’s just going to fail sooner than later now days…put a new one in when the process is fresh in my mind. Takes about an hour, not a lot of hard work…and…new wheel bearings and front hub assemblies are in place 🙂

All road noise is now attributid to my noisy tires, not the grinding of the wheel bearings.

Nothing else of excitement is going on…thankfully.

I should get back on my elimination of DirecTV project…

So I made another round of bacon cookies last night. I need to remember that I didn’t like the maple glaze the first time, and it’s not any better the second time.

Either the maple flavoring just isn’t enough, or it’s got too much cinnamon in it.

I have pictures on my FaceBook page if you go there. I’m not putting anymore glaze on the tops of the rest of the cookies. They taste GREAT without it!

And the other thing about baking cookies… if you don’t own a lot of the essentials, it’s expensive. The good news is, I now have cookie sheets, measuring spoons and cups, flour, brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, cinnamon, maple extract, and chocolate chips. So I guess it’s not all bad….
